The Lady Dons returned to the pool for a home game against the Mustangs of Monte Vista on Saturday afternoon. After the emotions of Senior night in their last game, the Dons looked relaxed as they warmed up in the afternoon sun. When the game began Monte Vista got off to a fast start winning the first sprint and scoring on their first attack from a sharply taken long range shot. The Lady Dons regrouped and quickly struck back with a goal from Heidi Heffelfinger assisted by Emma Miller. The Dons quickly made it two, then three, as Claire Rowell scored two goals, the first from a pass in from Carol Schirmer and the second from a five-meter penalty shot after drawing the foul herself. It was one way traffic as the Dons extended their lead out to 6-1 at the end of the first quarter with further goals from Sara Archer, Rowell and Maizie O’Hare.
The second quarter started with Monte Vista again winning the sprint but it was clear that despite the presence of a few stronger players in the Mustangs squad they were an inexperienced team with a novice goalkeeper. The Lady Dons took the opportunity to give game time to their whole squad and continued to extend their lead scoring five goals without reply. The goals coming from Heidi Heffelfinger (2), Maizie O’Hare, Sarah Potter and Daylor Williams. It was 11-1 at half time.
With the game won, the intensity dropped out of the game. The Dons stretched the lead to 13-2 in the third quarter with goals from Alana McCartney and Olivia Williams. In the fourth quarter the game became very loose with both sides scoring freely. The Dons scored four more times with goals by Sarah Potter, Frannie Daughters and two by Alexa Carter. The final score was 17-9 to the Lady Dons. Final statistics showed Claire Rowell and Heidi Heffelfinger each with three goals, Sarah Potter, Maizie O’Hare and Alexa Carter each with two goals, and one each for Alana McCartney, Sara Archer, Frannie Daughters, Daylor Williams and Olivia Williams. Carol Schirmer made two assists with one each from Alana McCartney, Sara Archer, Emma Miller, Alex Mould and Olivia Williams. Carol Schirmer and Alex Mould both made three steals, with Sara Archer and Emma Miller making two and Alana McCartney making one. The next game is Wednesday at home againt Campolindo.
