JV Hoops: They did it again-Win 53 to 38

The JV Basketball team looked to regain their form on Wednesday evening at home after a tough loss over the weekend.  The Dons opened strong and stayed strong throughout the game against St. Patrick/St. Vincent’s. Bennett Dodge won the tip and controlled the action to Jack Bayless for an easy layup.  Coco Gannon followed the next trip down the floor with a three point swish. Bennett was fouled shooting on the block and made both free throws and Landon Santos got his feet set in transition for a three pointer for a 10-0 Dons lead to start the game.  Cutting in from the wing, Torres scored a layup and Taran Krishnan made a fast break layup for two points.

Taran held his ground on defense and took a charge for another Dons possession to end the first quarter with the Dons in the lead 20-2. Ethan Torres cutting through the lane scored another fluid layup and scored again off a put back on an offensive rebound. Levi Rudin zipped an interior pass to Nathan Bennett in the lane for a great finish for two points.  The Dons found Zubin Acuna alone in the corner for a high arching three pointer that was nothing but net.   Dominic Sarica squared up and ended the half with a jumper from the free throw line for a bucket, which must have felt mighty good.  Score at the half 31-10.

The third quarter started with great passing with Bayless finding Bennett Dodge at the rim for two points.  Dodge was then fouled in the act of shooting and swished both free throws to extend the Dons’ lead.  After working the ball inside and out, Justin Zegarowski set up for a three point shot and drained it.  Bayless spun the ball off the glass for two more points on a driving layup.  Nathan Bennett hit a quick turnaround jumper for two in the lane to end the third quarter with the Dons leading 44-20.

The fourth quarter saw the St. Patrick/St. Vincent’s team make some adjustments and started hitting some shots from the three point line since they did not have the inside presence to match up with Bennett Dodge, Koleton Fenton and Eli Brent.  The Dons had plenty left in the tank to close the game with Dodge hitting a jumper on the left block for two points. Jack Bayless received the ball after cutting through the lane for another score.  Zubin Acuna got another chance at a three ball and stroked it as the shot clock was about to expire. Zubin was then fouled in the bonus and hit the first of the 1:1 and also made the second free throw to close the game with the Dons winning by a score of  53-38.
