The Junior Varsity Dons notched their 6th straight victory on Thursday, corralling the visiting Northgate High School Broncos 25-10 and 25-15. Dons serving dominated the game, as the team recorded a total of 16 aces.
The two teams started the first set evenly, sharing kills and errors to a 4-4 tie before the Dons began to pull away on kills by Apple Walton and Hanna Hageboeck, and a sly tip-over by setter Mara Korzeniowska. A powerful, 7-point serving run by Hageboeck brought the team to 17-7, and Ava Bunton’s burners scored the final 3 points.
The Dons started strong in the second set, with Bunton notching 2 early kills, but the Broncos bucked back, bringing the score to 7-10. Kylie Choi protected her 6-point serve run with a dig from the floor to Korzeniowska, followed by a deep dive that bumped the ball into the surprised forecourt of the opponents, bringing the Dons lead to 14-10. Hageboeck then drilled 4 aces out of her 6 serves, and Korzeniowska served the final 4 unreturnable points of the set.
