JV BASEBALL: WOODSON’S HR MAKES IT A BLUE-TIFUL DAY IN MORAGA, DONS 4-COUGARS 2

Nikko Woodson with his first high school homerun for the Dons

The JV Dons nabbed the lead late in the game in a 4-2 victory over Campolindo on Thursday.  The game was tied at two with Acalanes batting in the top of the sixth when Nikko Woodson homered on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs. ‘Hard hit’ is not even the right phrase…blasted, crushed, boomed it  (is that even a phrase?), whacked the heck out of the ball, put into orbit…the ball was gone, gone gone…over the high secondary left field fence. Bye Bye, Adios, Adieu, Sayonara…Ciao to that ball!

In the fourth inning, Sammy Lee started the Dons party with a hard single to center, followed by a steal to second. Tyler Worthington ripped a double for the Dons, scoring Lee. With a Cougar left fielder making an error, Worthington advanced to third (it was fabulous!).  Paul Kuhner took a deep hit to right field with the Cougar catching the ball, but that is fine because it was an RBI as Worthington came home to tie up the score, 2 to 2. Thank you very much-Paul! The next inning, Henry Souza takes a nice line drive to left field, putting himself on the bases with Woodson hitting a homerun to secure two more for the Dons. 4 to 2-Dons take the Cougars on their home turf.

The Dons surround Woodson at home plate to celebrate his HR

Henry Souza led things off on the pitcher’s mound for the Dons with focus, power and force.  Souza allowed two hits and two runs over five innings, striking out seven (repeat seven)   Woodson pitched the last six outs for the Dons.

Paul Kuhner, Woodson, Souza, Sammy Lee, Mason Michlitsch, and Tyler Worthington each managed one hit to lead Acalanes.

BIG GAME ON FRIDAY-4pm at Acalanes against Campo. Tuesday, the Dons barely lost to the Cougars, today the Dons beat the Cougars…and Friday (today) the is the final game out of the 3 game series-Winner of this game decides it.
