Three quarters of intense play wasn’t enough Thursday nights as the Los Lomas Knights shut down the Dons boys basketball team in the final stanza to earn a 59-51 victory.
A competitive and quick paced first quarter saw the Dons knotted 18-18.
In the second, each team upped the defensive effort, with the Knights holding a slight offensive edge and outscoring the Dons 15-12 to take a 33-30 lead into the half.
The third quarter saw the Dons chip slightly into the lead, outscoring the Knights 14-13, to trail 46-44.
In the fourth, the Dons hit a wall, managing just seven points in the quarter. A four-minute shooting drought proved fatal, forcing the team to gamble on defense and allowing the Knights to pull away. While the defense only allowed thirteen points in the quarter, it was too much for the Dons to overcome.
Sophomore Jake Davis led the Dons in scoring with 18 points, followed by senior Graham Smith with 15. Davis also led the team in rebounds with 10, followed by senior Scott Ruegg with 5.
