First year Head Coach Connor Hornsby is looking to get the Varsity team back on track after a rocky first week. Last year’s season saw a majority of the starters graduate but a talented group returns and is supplemented by at least 4 sophomores. Next week, a number of starters will be returning as well after football wraps up it’s campaign this Saturday.
After going 1-1 in preseason games, Acalanes dropped a pair of games to a very talented set of pitchers from College Park, 7-1 on Tuesday and 8-1 on Thursday. Both games were closer than they appeared but defensive struggles let College Park pull away. In Wednesday’s action, Ethan Rowland (a Junior) was the starter going 3 innings, and Benjy Braunstein (also a Junior) pitched 4 scoreless innings of relief giving up 3 hits, 0 runs, and 3 strikeouts.
In Thursday’s game at College Park, Sam Winkles (Sr) got the start but left early with tightness in his fore-arm. Connor McPhail (Jr) and Sam Heyman (Sr) pitched well in 5+ innings of relief.
Tri-Captains Davis Diaz (Sr), Miles Bergman (Jr), and Kyle White (Jr) look to rebound next week with 3 games against Northgate (away and home on Tuesday and Thursday) and Concord (Friday @ Concord)
