The Lady Dons continued their 2+ year winning streak today in comfortable fashion, beating Northgate 13-4. The Broncos looked outmatched from the beginning as the Dons ran out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. 3 goals from Claire Rowell and single goals by Alana McCartney, Caroline Schirmer, Maizie O’Hare and Alexa Carter set the team up for the rest of the match to rest starters and give all players ample time in the pool.
With all starters resting, newer varsity players had a chance to show their own magic. By the end of the game 8 Dons had found the net, including Sarah Potter, Alex Mould, Daylor Williams. Heidi Heffelfinger and Emma Miller led the team with 2 assists each. But the real story of the day was the Don’s smothering defense, registering 15 steals (led by Potter and Schirmer with 3 each). Ava Donleavy and Audrey Cox remained stellar in goal. Rowell (3) McCartney (2) and O’Hare (2) led the team in scoring.
The Dons next face a very strong Miramonte team on Wednesday at Acalanes. This is a long awaited match for two teams that have played each other very closely in the last 2 years.
