The Dons’ first away league game ended in disappointment, as Clayton Valley’s shooting accuracy from the 3-point line overwhelmed our Dons. The Ugly Eagles nailed a total of 15 3-pointers, helping them rack up 78 points to the Dons’ 48.
The Dons were able to match the Ugly Eagles point for point the first quarter. The Dons posted two 3-pointers (Graham Smith & Scott Ruegg) plus 2-point baskets and 100% free throw shooting by Aidan Bodner & Jake Davis, tying the game 15-15 at the end of the first quarter.
But the Ugly Eagles took the lead 37-29 after making four 3-pointers during the second quarter. The Eagles added six more 3-pointers during the third quarter, increasing its lead 64-41, and continued growing its lead the second half.
On the bright side, the Dons made 9 of 11 free throws, Joey Carrillo and Jake Davis displayed strong rebounding, Scott made some nice steals, and all 12 varsity players were healthy and saw game time. Jake and Scott were the Dons’ high scorers with 14 each.
The Dons look forward to home court advantage when they play Piedmont tonight at 6:00 pm.
