Despite a full week off from the court, the Acalanes JV basketball team stuck to its winning ways with a convincing 38-26 victory on Friday night over the visiting College Park Falcons.
Once again, the Dons rode a strong defensive effort which combined a game-opening, and hugely successful, full-court press that produced numerous turnovers with a game-long tenacity on the boards that resulted in a clear rebounding advantage to the Dons. And while they converted a number of those advantages to score 25 points in the first half, the Dons found their offensive touch largely missing after halftime. A desperately thin four-point third quarter offensive output was followed by a marginally improved, though still relatively weak, single-digit fourth quarter wherein they scored nine points. Still, with an unwavering focus on defensive pressure, rebounding and offensive ball movement, the Dons walked away with a satisfying double-digit victory in a game which they led from start to finish. Once again, the Dons victory from a balanced offensive attack as Jack Russo led all scorers with 8 points, while a trio of Dons—Jake James, Noah Bloch and Tyler Murphy—each contributed 6 points. The JV Dons, now deservedly poised with back-toback Friday night victories, are now embarking on the single-most important week of their schedule as they face Las Lomas on Monday night, at home, then travel to Orinda to square-off against Miramonte and, finally, finish the week at home against the run-and-gun Ugly Eagles of Clayton Valley Charter School. Come show your support for a team clearly on the rise!
