Varsity Boys ended the Chris Huber Classic on a high note, defeating the Pittsburg Pirates 76-63. Coach Huber’s family was present as he was honored for his dedication to Dons Nation. Senior Aidan Bodner was awarded All Tournament Selection after three days of aggressive defense, consistent rebounds (21 total), repeated steals, and double-digit scoring, including a season-high 22 points on Saturday night.
The Dons opened Saturday’s game on a 15-3 run. The Pirates narrowed the lead to 2 a couple times, but could never catch up. The Dons were aggressive on defense and teamed up on offense. Nine players assisted and/or rebounded and seven players scored. John Kalil had a great game, bringing powerful defense under the basket, grabbing 9 rebounds, and scoring 9 points. Aidan’s 77% free throw shooting served the Dons well, as he went to the line for 13 free throws. Scott shot a stellar 80% from the free throw line.
Additional highlights included Aidan scoring 7 of his 22 points in 20 seconds with a fast break, steal, another steal, and free throws; Jackson Aris-Dumas’s great ball control; and Scott’s 23 points, Graham’s 12 points, and Shreekar Pandey’s 6 points.
Varsity Boys are grateful to Dolorez Dumas-Aris and Sarah Carrillo for co-chairing the tournament. The boys are on holiday until Saturday, January 4, when they play Silver Creek HS at Acalanes.
