Cheered on by the girls varsity team, who were fresh of their own victory in the Marin Catholic tournament, the Dons cruised into the championship game of the tournament with a 57-36 victory over the Titans. Juniors Scott Ruegg and Graham Smith scored 19 points and 13 points, respectively, and for the second straight night the Dons displayed a tremendous defensive effort. Coach Henik’s ¾ court trapping press, combined with the Dons man-to-man and 2-3 zone defenses, gave the Titans trouble all night.
The boys took command in the first half , 32-21, with Ruegg and Smith combining for 20 points, including 4 three-pointers. Seniors Aidan Bodner and John Kalil led the effort in the second half. Bodner scored 5 of his 9 points in the fourth quarter and Kalil added 8 rebounds to go with his 6 points to finish off the overmatched Frontier team. The Dons will face San Rafael High in the championship game Saturday night.
