Rebounding, Outstanding, No one Surrounding the Frosh Dons

The Acalanes Freshman team scored big, 59 to 14 against the Cal High Grizzlies. This was the first game of the Dougherty Valley Winter Tournament and the tenth victory for the Dons this season.

Dons controlled the game from start to finish, with the Grizzlies chasing the Dons up and down the court all morning. Nathan Bennett enjoyed his Christmas yesterday, yet Thursday he enjoyed winning with his teammates. Nathan scored 6 points and played a flawless game on both offense and defense. The Grizzlies were hibernating, and the Dons were wide awake with scoring 45 points by halftime. Jack Bayless and Bennett Dodge threw 15 points each up on the scoreboard for the Dons. Other final tallies of the morning were: Miller Smith (7), Landon Best-Santos(6), Colin Norstad(6) Justin Zegaroski (6) and Dominic Sarica (5) Zubin Acuna and Coco Gannon both had 1 three pointer.

Being able to stop the Grizzlies on the hardwood was integral to the success of the Don’s defense, and taking away Grizzlies ability to score. Stealing the ball, contesting shots, deflecting passes, forcing turnovers and garnering rebounds were key to the Dons defense.

The Frosh Dons will reload and gear up for their next game on Friday against Foothill High School at noon and continue on their winning streak.
