Though the Dons secured the League title on Tuesday, Acalanes closed out the regular season and extended their perfect League record (12-0) Thursday night with a 3-1 win over Clayton Valley. NCS playoffs begin next week.
Nick Kresnak got the start and the win for the Dons, pitching 4 strong innings before Michael Castelli came out of the bullpen for the next 2 innings, keeping the door shut on the Ugly Eagles. Thatcher Hurd closed the game and kept Clayton Valley off the board to preserve the win.
The Dons put up a run early when Sam Heyman hit a 2-out line drive RBI in the first inning. Nick Bamont and Brady Huchingson both got hits in following innings, but the Dons did not score again until later in the game.
After the Ugly Eagles tied the game 1-1 in the 4th, the Dons answered in the 5th with a two-out rally. Thatcher Hurd hit a line drive double to get in scoring position. After an intentional walk to avoid pitching to Davis Diaz, and Clayton Valley error that loaded the bases, Nick Kresnak (2 for 3 on the day) put the hurt on the Ugly Eagles with a 2 RBI single that moved the Dons ahead 3-1. That score held through the 7th, and Acalanes closed out their League schedule undefeated.
