While solid pitching on both sides kept batters in check throughout the game, Acalanes got it done and took the first game on Tuesday in the two-game series this week against Benicia High School.
Logan Hurd got the start and the win for the Dons, pitching 4 innings (3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K). Michael Castelli threw the next 2 innings (0 H, 1 BB, 2 K), and Thatcher Hurd came in to close, retiring the last 3 batters in the game.
Acalanes bats were quiet in the game, but timely hits and capitalized opportunities on the bases proved to be enough to secure the win. Davis Diaz led the Dons, going 2 for 3 with 1 RBI. Nicolas Bamont and Thatcher Hurd also contributed hits in the game. Brady Huchingson drove in the other run with a sacrifice fly.
With Tuesday’s win, the Dons improve their season record to 19-2, and Acalanes remains undefeated in League play. The Varsity Dons next play at home on Thursday against Benicia at 4pm.
