After a two and a half week hiatus from League play, the Varsity Dons took the first of two games this week against Miramonte, winning 5-3.
Dons Varsity offense was led by Cole Murgia, who went 2 for 3 at the plate and used his speed to tear up the bases with 4 stolen bags. Davis Diaz, Nick Kresnak and Tommy Thrasher all had extra base hits. Nicolas Bamont came through with a particularly timely hit that drove in two runs. Other offensive contributors in the game included Scott Brydon, Brady Huchingson and Thatcher Hurd, who each had a hit.
Logan Hurd got the start and the win for Acalanes Varsity, with 1ER and 3Ks over 4 innings. Michael Castelli came in from the bullpen for the next two innings, also with 1ER and 3Ks. Thatcher Hurd pulled off his catcher’s gear and Davis Diaz slid behind the dish for Hurd to come in and close out the final inning (0H, 1K) to preserve the win.
Tuesday’s win improves Acalanes’ record in league play to 5-0, and 15-2 overall. The Dons play Miramonte again on Thursday at home at 4pm.
