Nick Kresnak owned the mound on Thursday and threw a complete game shutout, as the Dons downed Northgate 5-0. Kresnak allowed just 2 hits, 1 walk and 7 strikeouts over 6 innings (in a rain-shortened game).
Thursday’s game felt an awful lot like Tuesday’s against Northgate for the first 5 innings, with an Acalanes pitcher throwing a shutout, and a 1st inning Dons run being the only run on the board. In Thursday’s matchup, that 1st inning run came after a base hit by Cole Murgia when Nick Kresnak’s sacrifice fly scored Davis Diaz. As the rain started coming down at the top of the 6th, Thatcher Hurd got things started with a single to center field. After two walks and with the bases loaded, Tommy Thrasher came through with 2 RBI line drive to left field, moving the Dons ahead 3-0. Acalanes then tacked on 2 more runs in the inning with RBIs from Sam Heyman and Scott Brydon.
As the rain turned into a downpour, Kresnak locked down the win in the bottom of the 6th, by striking out 2 and withDiaz nabbing a line out to end the game. With the win, the Dons move to 4-0 in League play, and improve their season record to 11-0.
