Hey there volleyball fans. It’s time to kick off the new season and meet the 2018 squad…and we are picking up right where we left off last year, as YOUR Acalanes Dons Girls Volleyball Team hosts the Moreau Catholic Pilots…the team that knocked out the Don’s last season in the NCS Playoff Semifinals, ending the season. Time for revenge. And time to meet this year’s team!

 

First Set:

 

1-0:      #3, Sophomore Erin Meade gives the Don’s the lead with her first Varsity kill!

2-0:      #6, Senior Hayes Hollar serves an Ace!

3-0:      #13…Roof!, That would be Senior Elsa Clever.

4-0:      Hollar Ace again.

5-0:      …and another Ace! Hayes!

7-1:      #5, Junior Madi Risch crushes a kill off a long cross-court set from #4, Junior Lane           Webster. Dons are rolling!

8-1:      #12, Junior Kennedy Cornish builds a ROOF in the middle for a score.

10-2:    Service Ace from #10, Senior Rachel Go.

11-2:    The Dons keep rolling with a kill from #15, Sophomore Annika Olson. Welcome to           Varsity Anni!

14-3:    Risch roll shot kill off the buttery pass from #9, Senior Libero Cailey McVay.

18-7:    Another nice McVay pass leads to a Meade kill. McNugget.

19-7:    An Ace blown by the Pilots from “Hurricane Lane” Webster.

25-10:  The Lady Dons handle business efficiently in the first.

 

Second Set:

 

1-0:      Hurricane Lane dumps in another ace to start the second set.

3-2:      Clever roof. With authority.

11-8:    #2, Junior Parker Jung fires a hot potato serve, and Clever crushes the resulting   overpass. Yummy!

15-19:  Big rough patch. Timeout Dons.

17-19:  Webster. Ace.

19s:     Clever kills another overpass off the Webster bullet serve as the Dons roar back.

20-19:  McVay covers the setting duties and dishes up a gem to Hollar for the kill.

22s:     Jung tape roll ace! Phew!

23-22:  Another Jung Ace! Boom!

24-22: How about 3 Aces? Yes! Jung!

25-23. Risch kill! Dons win!…the second set.

 

Third Set:

 

4-9:      Risch kill after a slow Dons start to the 3rd, with #7, Junior Olivia Elliott and #16,            Sophomore Elena Needs making their Varsity debuts.

7-11:    Olson kills the Go set.

8-11:    McVay with another “Dirty Ace” off the net.

10-11:  Cornish one-handed stuff roof. Nifty.

13-16:  Needs Ace as the Dons are still working out the kinks tonight.

13-19:  Timeout Dons.

14-19:  Needs pass. Webster set. Risch kill off of the timeout. Just like Coach Ernie drew it up!

18-22:  Elliott kill as the Dons try to hang on.

19-24:  Yellow card for Coach Ernie. Nobody knows why. Not even the down ref who called it     knows why!

21-25:  Dons scrap but the Pilots navigate their way to the set win.

 

Fourth Set:

 

1-1:      Meade kill. Nice one Erin.

2-1:      Jung Ace. Another dirty net roller. That’s THREE tonight Parker!

4-1:      Risch angle kill. Looks sharp Madi.

5-1:      Clever Roof. Yasssss Elsa!

9-5:      Go power kill. Wha?…Yes Rachel!

10-6:    Hollar kill. Money, Hayes.

12-6:    McVay Ace. K-Lee!

14-8:    Go set to Olson for a kill. Sweet Anni!

15-8:    Webster Ace. Hurricane comin’

18-8:    Webster bullet serve. Overpass. Clever crushes it! Yummy in the tummy.

21-9:    Jung with yet another Ace. Awesome serving and the Dons are running the Pilots            aground here in the 4th.

25-12:  Webster dump into the campfire wins it for the Dons. Undefeated! Ha.

 

Shout out to Senior Roxy Cummings, who is currently sidelined due to injury, for leading the team in spirit and energy from the bench. The Dons “bench game” was strong!!
