Dons Win in a Shutout; Thrasher Goes Yard Twice

The Varsity Baseball team claimed the “W” in a 3-0 shutout of Foothill High School on Friday afternoon. Tommy Thrasher provided all the offensive firepower the Dons needed when he hit a solo bomb in the 3rd inning, and a 2-run home run in the 5th. Other offensive contributors on the day: Scott Brydon, Sam Heyman, Nick Kresnak and Luke Miles.

While Thrasher was a one-man wrecking crew with his bat, Nick Kresnak was dominant on the mound and pitched a gem. He went six innings with 10 K’s, 1 BB and held a strong Foothill squad to just 2 hits. Logan Hurd came in to close out the final inning and preserve the win.

Foothill threatened in the 4th inning, with runners at 2nd and 3rd base and no outs. Kresnak worked the Dons out of the jam and proceeded to strike out the next 3 batters to dash Foothill’s hopes of getting on the scoreboard.

The Dons found themselves in another tough spot in the 5th with a runner on third and no outs. Kresnak struck out the next batter, and then the Dons defense made a well-executed 5-3-2 double play. Third baseman Brady Huchingson threw across the diamond to Tommy Thrasher at first, who then threw a missile to home, where catcher Thatcher Hurd applied the tag, saving a run and ending the inning.

With Friday’s win, the Varsity Dons improve their record to 4-0. They next play at Mission San Jose High School on Tuesday, 3/12.
