Acalanes Track Athlete, Johnny Choi, Makes History!

This past Wednesday, March 20th, we travelled to Clayton Valley for our first away meet. Our girls battled Clayton fiercely, but narrowly lost 66-69 in a meet that came down to the wire. On the boys side, our boys pulled an 83-53 upset that ended Clayton Valley’s two season undefeated streak over the DAL.

In the middle of the meet, a chorus of cheers erupted as Johnny Choi set the school record in the High Jump with a jump of 6’8”. We are not quite sure just what is most impressive about Johnny’s jump, but here’s a list:

  1. Johnny is only 5’8” tall himself, and jumped a full foot over his own head
  2. He broke a school record that has stood since 1982
  3. He out jumped Clayton Valley’s Daylon Hicks, who finished 2nd in the State of California last year
  4. Johnny’s jump is the 3rd highest jump in California this year and the 9th highest in the United States
  5. Johnny broke the record to sound of applause from all of his teammates, who tried to storm the apron once they heard the result

Congratulations, Johnny Choi! Video here.
