Apr 14 – Varsity Boys Lax Team Narrowly Defeats Campo

On Tuesday night, the Boys lacrosse team took on their cross town rivals at home. The Cougars came out fighting and possessed the ball for the majority of the first half, allowing the Dons to only score 2 goals. Despite the Cougars time of possession, the Dons defense fought hard and held the Cougars to 2 goals as well. Score at halftime was tied at 2 to 2.

The Dons looked a bit more alive in the 2nd half, but the Cougars weren’t giving up. Dons scored 2 in the 3rd quarter, Cougars scored 1. With the final quarter left to play, and back and forth goals made by both teams, the tension and excitement was building. However, the Dons pulled ahead 7 to 6 with just a few minutes left in the game. A face-off win by Sam deRoque, gave the Dons a much needed possession and they were able to wind some extremely valuable time off the clock. With a delay of game penalty called on the Dons and less than 50 seconds to go, the Dons’ defense had to fight hard to prevent the Cougars from scoring and forcing them in to overtime. Although the Cougars did get a shot off, they missed. Nate Welcomer’s quick reflexes recovered the ball and he sent if flying in to Don’s territory just as time ran out. Final score Dons 7, Cougars 6.

Adrian Jeffries had 5 goals and 1 assist. Sam deRoque had 1 goal and 1 assist. Cole Tanner had 1 goal.

Josh Baginski was a standout at defense helping to force a number of Cougar turnovers and recovering 4 ground balls. Nate Welcomer had 9 saves at goalie.
