The Lady Dons Varsity Girls Volleyball fought hard against San Ramon, but ended the match on the losing side in four, 25-22, 14-25, 17-25, 22-25.
The first match showed the Dons in fighting form. Services aces fired across the net from Tyanna Roy, Rachel, Lila Schoenfield and Amanda Jarquin. Huge blocks by Schoenfield, Rachel Cox, and Joanna Harnish denied the Wolverines extra points. A number of beautiful off-the-net plays, diving saves and big digs left no doubt who would take the set. A service ace rocket from Roy ended the game, 25-22.
Acalanes struggled to keep that momentum going. San Ramon found its pace and kept it through the next three sets. But the Dons would not go easily. Slamming kills, sweet off-the-net work, pancake saves, and powerful digs, made for long rallies that belied the end score. Kills were logged from Schoenfield, Brooke Aiello, Lisa Carrington, Danielle Grobeck, and Megan Dalziel. Huge digs from Josie Mueller, Alex Faxel-Ligori, and Harnish helped keep the plays alive. Marie Teichman and Grobeck blocked back countless kill attempts down the middle. Julia Amaral worked the net, logging kill assists and catching rolling netballs. Service aces from Kendall Baker and Jarquin moved the game forward, but at last tally, victory went to the Wolverines.
The Lady Dons go up against the best in the region at the Deer Valley Volleyball invitational held at Deer Valley, Saturday, September 10.
