Acalanes Freshman Girls Volleyball defeated Dougherty Valley Tuesday, winning in two sets 25-15, 25-13.
The first set showed clearly the Lady Dons came to win. Acalanes took the lead early and never gave it up. Service Aces by Taylor Odom, Holly Gillar, Holly Fleischmann, and Katie McCarty launched the offensive. Kills by Dana Piercy, Alta Paladino, Odom and Fleischmann, along with a beautiful back row kill by Ying Stroebe kept the momentum on the side of the Dons. Defense kept the Wildcats at bay with blocks by Fleischmann and a diving save by Claire Amaral. Lily Bauer‘s final floating serve ended the set 25-15.
Dory Grobeck opened the second set with a five point service run, four of them aces. Stroebe and Sarah Moore added more aces to the points column total. Jillian Wickline, McCarty and Amaral logged kills to push the Wildcats back on their heels. Artfully placed tips by Amaral and McCarty denied their opponents any chance for return play. A final service ace by Amaral closed out the set and match 25-13.
The Freshman team takes on Alhambra at home on Thursday, September 29 at 4 p.m.
