SEP 6- JV Girls Tennis

The JV Lady Dons ran into a hungry pack of Lady Wolves at San Ramon Valley High dropping our first road match 2-7. All of our lines played tenaciously under difficult conditions as the thermometer stayed in the low 90s throughout the match. We played the varsity format of best of three sets and every line competed and hard, making fine line calls in the best tradition of Acalanes tennis.

The two Lady Don wins came in virtually identitcal fashion with our teams going to a third set tie-breaker to achieve victory. Both Acalanes duos won their first set, dropped the second and re-grouped to win convincingly in the the third set tie break.

At D-2, Molly Cronk and Sophia Scipi broke through first by winning the first set 7-5, dropping the second 2-6 and rallying to win 10-5 in the third. Sophia served exceptionally well throughout and Molly controlled the net all afternoon, including the final volley for a winner.

Playing at D-4 Niki Palamountain and Skyler DeMartini got a service break to prevail 6-4 in the opening set, but then seemed to be hit by the heat, dropping a close second set 5-7. In the tie-breaker, Niki and Skyler reverted to their first set form and won going away at 10-6. Skyler’s hard first serve returned and Niki put away a number of winners en route to our second win of the day.

Both matches took a full two hours to complete, but were really fine examples of players digging in and supporting each other in difficult situations.
