Sep 24 – JV Girls Tennis: Acalanes 6 – Las Lomas 0

The JV Lady Dons recorded their first DFAL win of the 2015 season by blanking the Las Lomas Knights 6-0 at home. Due to a number of illnesses, Las Lomas only brought three lines to today’s match. Captains Alexia Lucey and Lucy Nguyen got the Acalanes ball rolling with a convincing 8-1 win at D-3. Alexia and Lucy communicated effectively and covered the court well throughout their match. Also recording an 8-1 win were Captains Sammy Brown and Claire Terentieff at D-2. Claire and Sammy took control of the net and the match early and did not look back.

At D-1 Kelly Min and Maddie McDonagh got off to a slow start getting down 0-2 before they cut down their unforced errors and began playing their game en route to a 8-3 win. Maddie was literally a last minute fill in with her mother bringing her tennis gear to school during seventh period.

At D-5, Milena Lucey and Olivia Towery teamed to play the D-2 team from Las Lomas. Despite Milena hitting a first serve off the back of Olivia’s head, our D-5 combo rolled to an 8-2 victory.

Las Lomas split up its D-1 team to play lines four and six. These proved to be the most competitive and compelling matches of the day. Facing a D-1, D-3 team, Maggie Curless used a combination of her hard first serve and “moon ball” second to keep Las Lomas off balance and Jess Gerson effectively controlled the net on their way to an 8-6 win. The final match of the day saw the frost duo of Sophia Lindgren and Emily Klein playing at D-6 against a D-1 player and her D-3 partner. Emily and Sophia grabbed an early lead and did not let go. Sophia served out an 8-6 win with Emily volleying a clean winner at match point.

This impressive win evens our overall record at 3-3 and we move to 1-2 in DFAL play. Way to go Lady Dons!
