Sep 1 – Girls Volleyball Beat Monte Vista for the First Time in a Long Time

Your Acalanes Dons swung into action this week. On Tuesday they prevailed on the road at Deer Valley in 4 sets.

Then on Thurs night the Dons came out hot against a very tough Monte Vista squad.

Behind solid team passing, serving and the all around strong play from Senior Parker Jones, the Dons took an initial 9-6 lead in the first set.

Monte Vista then just overpowered the Dons to take a 24-16 lead. But wait! The Dons reeled off three straight, showing some spunk and setting the tone that they were not going to be an easy out this night.

The Mustangs regrouped with a timeout and took the First set 19-25.

Dons came out rip roaring in the 2nd set. MV TO with a 6-1 Dons lead.  Dons held firm at 10-5 but then the Mustangs stampeded back to 11-10. The Dons worked several different player combos and went toe to toe and forced a MV TO leading 21-17. MV came storming back with 4 unanswered, forcing an Acalanes TO at 22-21. Finally after more intense back and forth the Dons took the 2nd set 25-23! Almost as good as Rio!

Once again the Dons jumped out to an early set lead in the 3rd, gapping the Mustangs out to 8-1, clearly outplaying their hosts and forcing an early MV timeout. The timeout was ineffective as the Dons pushed out to a 13-4 lead. And then to a 19-7 lead with all kinds of great team play.  And the Dons worked hard to the finish, led by dominant play from Parker Jones, and took the 3rd set 25-14.

MV flipped the script to start the 4th with a big 9-0 run. The Dons fought back to 6-12 before MV pulled away to force the decisive 5th set. 4th set 10-25
