Acalanes 4 – Northgate 3

In a very competitive match, the JV Lady Dons earned a 4-3 victory over Northgate High Tuesday afternoon on the Acalanes courts. Unlike the Giants, the JV Lady Dons closed the contest with a late inning win in the last match.

As they have throughout the season, Skyler DeMartini and Niki Palamountain recorded the first Acalanes point. Niki and Skyler started strong and jumped to a 5-0 lead when one of their Northgate opponents strained her knee and was forced to retire. In a display of good sportsmanship, Niki and Skyler went to the Acalanes training room to get an ice pack for the injured Northgate player.

Milena Lucey and Sophia Cooper playing at D-2 got off to a slow start. After getting down 3-6, Milena and Sophia did not lose another game. They ran off five straight games to secure a well-deserved 8-6 win.

Sophia Scipi and Molly Cronk played a tight, back and forth match before they secured a service break that carried them to an 8-6 win. Molly and Sophia communicated effectively and played consistently fine points on their way to evening the match at 3-3.

Katie Hale and Sally Tang put the Lady Dons over the top with a fine 8-4 win in the final match of the day. Playing well together at D-7, Sally and Katie took control of the match early and led wire to wire. Both Lady Dons served consistently on their way to the crucial fourth point of the day.

All of the Acalanes lines and competed hard in a well-played match. Our record stands at 9 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie overall and 4 – 0 – 1 in DAL play.
