Ouch!

Smith tosses in a 3 pointer in the last 2 second of the game, still not enough to take down the Broncos.

Northgate prepped for this game. Last time the Dons beat the Broncos by three points. And, Monday the Dons lost by a one tiny, little, small, teeny-weeny, wee, minuscule one point.

Basketball is sometimes called a non-contact sport. Although, there is plenty of legal contact between players, some contact is considered illegal: charging, holding and blocking.  At one point, the Broncos were pushing like it was a football game. It was deja vu for   Bennett Dodge, as the last time we play the Broncos, Bennett was mauled and Monday they did it again. One of the Broncos seem like he was trying to dance with Bennett or was he playing a rough game of ‘tag’ or whatever it was it was not basketball. The Broncos had their hands and arms in Bennett‘s back, sides, face, anywhere to intentionally slow down Bennett and the Dons. The refs did not see all the shenanigans and did not blow their whistles enough.

The Broncos must of done their homework, as they blockaded the ‘Jack Attack‘, and stop the clock on ‘Miller time‘. Even though they were hunting down Jack Bayless, he still scored 26 points for the Dons. Miller Smith was able to have three 3-pointers. However, it was not enough. The Broncos were freezing out the Dons shots. The Dons lost (that hurt to type that word), 48-49. Ouch!

We move on, using the distaste of losing as a major source of motivation. Even though losing is not the end of the world, losing should hurt. When you invest an inordinate amount of time, effort, and love into this Dons team, losing should sting a little. But we cannot and will not accept losing from a lack of effort…The Dons gave it their all, they always do.

Like my friend Batman always says, “Why do we fall? — So we can learn to pick ourselves up.” Yes Batman! Up is the only way for this Freshman team to go in their final three games of the season. And the Dons will be UPbeat, geared UP, pumped UP and they will wrap UP the Campo Cougars ….this Wednesday at 4pm. Hey–Show UP and support your Frosh Dons!
