October 13 – Freshman Girls Volleyball Team Defeats Las Lomas

Published on October 14, 2011 by

Acalanes Freshman Volleyball Team continued their winning streak Tuesday, again beating Las Lomas in two sets 25-15, 25-18.   While Acalanes lost the first point of the set, they regained the lead quickly and never let it go again.  Service aces from Taylor Odom, Jililan Wickline and a nice service run (five of which were aces) from Sarah Moore left no doubt the Lady Dons had come to win.  Kills were provided by Holly Gillar, Odom and Moore, off assists by Holly Fleischmann, while defense led by Ying Stroebe and aided by Claire Amaral denied many attempts at scoring by the Knights.  At 24-15, a sweet tip by Lily Bauer ended the match.  Dons win 25-15.

Never letting up, the Don pushed forward during the second set with Odom and Stroebe offering service runs.  This game, however, was about strength, strategy and a bit of scramble-ball.  Dory Grobeck ran the court with carefully placed sets put nicely in line for Dana Piercy, Katie McCarty and Janine Jaber to slam kills, while Stroebe’s defense let nothing pass…including a pachinko-machine-like-off-the-ceiling-beams return for a Dons point.  At 23-18, Coach Bryan Mall’s intensive training proved effective with a round of scramble ball off the net.  The Dons kept their cool, keeping the ball in play and getting the point.  Moore fired one in for the final match closer.   Dons win 25-18.  The Dons meet Campolindo again, this time at Campo, on Tuesday, October 18.
