Oct 26 – Girls JV Tennis vs. Miramonte

Miramonte 10 – Acalanes 4

The Lady Mats got revenge for our earlier stomping by spoiling our last match of the year 10-4. Despite the loss, the JV Lady Dons can claim the Diablo Athletic League JV Girls Tennis title for the Foothill Division. We finished our league season with a record of 8 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie. Thanks to a Las Lomas win over Miramonte, all of the other teams in the Foothill Division have two losses. Thus, we complete the season ½ game ahead of the Mats and a full game ahead of Campo.

Today’s highlights for the Lady Dons were at the top, middle and bottom of the lineup.

As they did all season Lauren Craig and Shannon McVay faced the opponent’s D-1 duo. Shannon and Lauren dispatched their Miramonte foes 8-4 in tightly contested match. Playing extended points, switching multiple times during extended rallies, Shannon and Lauren covered the court well and secured a fine Acalanes win.

Skyler DeMartini and Niki Palamountain ended their JV careers as they began three years ago with a Lady Dons win. Niki and Skyler took control of their line early and played their fine, aggressive brand of tennis on their way to an 8-2 triumph at D-2. A nice way to end their JV careers.

In the middle of the lineup at D-6 Naomi “Nomi” Berkowitz and Audrey Glosson played a close, competitive match before emerging victorious 8-6. Audrey and Naomi communicated effectively while playing a number of extended points on their way to a fine win.

In the final match of the day at D-12, Sofia Swatt teamed with D-2 Sophia Scipi to play a match against the Miramonte D-12 and D-2 players. In a match shortened due to time, a tiebreaker was played at 7-7. Having played well as a team during the first 14 games, Sofia and Sophia dug in and played a really exciting tiebreak. The 7-5 win in the tiebreak earned the SoFPHias the final LD point of the day 8-7.

Congratulations to all of the Lady Dons on a terrific tennis season.
