Oct 15 – JV Girls Volleyball
The Acalanes Girls JV Team took on Dougherty Valley at home and swept the Wildcats 25-17, 25-16 while hosting a DIG PINK Event to raise awareness and support for more effective breast cancer prevention and treatment.
In the first set, both teams sided out effectively at the beginning and were tied at 8-8. The Dons then stepped up their defense with blocks by Elsa Clever, Lexi Fraser, Riana Buchman and Sarah Nelson as well as backrow digs by Zoe McPhail, Hannah Edwards and Kaitlyn McKendall to surge ahead of the Wildcats. Acalanes also raised their serving game and also added several kills by outside hitters, Roxy Cummings and Ren Dunwoodie, as well as middle blockers, Riana Buchman and Elsa Clever, to close the set out 25-17.
The Dons kept the momentum going at the start of the second set and raced out to a 10-3 lead behind aces by Rachel Go and Elsa Clever. Acalanes kept the pressure on with strong passing and a balanced attack and also forced Dougherty Valley into multiple errors as they led 20-12. The Dons also showed off some new plays, including opposite Sarah Nelson approaching behind and around the middle blocker to attack a set from Rachel Go that fooled the Dougherty Valley blockers. Opposite Lexi Fraser and middle blocker Elsa Clever also contributed several kills, along with aces by Zoe McPhail and Kaitlyn Enrici as the Dons easily finished off the Wildcats 25-16.
The Dons are now 5-1 in league play (13-3 overall) and getting ready to take on rival Campolindo next Tuesday, Oct 20.
