Oct 1 – Girls JV Tennis

The JV Lady Dons tennis team downed the Alhambra Bulldogs 8-3 in a DFAL match this afternoon in Martinez. All of the Acalanes lines played competitively in a convincing win.

Using the 8-game pro set format, Maddie Guzaitis and Kelianne Witt playing at D-1 began the scoring with an 8-2 win. Maddie and Keli overcame a slow start before taking control of the match by running off six consecutive games. Also starting slow at D-2, Sam Sweeney and Olivia Reinecke found themselves down 0-3 before they began to play their game on their way to an 8-4 victory. Playing against opponents, who did not put much pace on the ball and lobbed consistently, Olivia and Sam tried a couple of different tactics before settling on playing a fine aggressive style of tennis on their way to victory.

Niki Palamountain and Skyler Demartini continued their winning ways by serving and volleying effectively to record an 8-2 win at D-3. Captains Alex Awwad and Doe Steinbrecher, playing at D-4 took control of the net en route to an 8-4 victory. Also prevailing 8-4, Meena Neelakadan and Milena Lucey communicated effectively on a number of points and covered the court well at D-5. At D-8, Sally Tang and Olivia Towery got off to a fast start at 3-0 and continued to pressure their opponents at the net to secure an 8-3 win.

The Lady Dons freshman duos acquitted themselves well at D-7, 9 and 10. Sophia Lindgren and Emily Craig played really well together and covered the court effectively in notching an 8-4 win. At D-9, Shannon McVay and Lauren Craig served well and maintained their focus to record an 8-2 Acalanes victory. Rounding out our day and recording a dominant 8-0 win, Sophia Scipi and Molly Cronk also had to work to maintain their focus, while Sophia was knocking Molly’s racquet out of her hand with a serve.

The JV Lady Dons improved their record to 4-2 overall and evened our record at 2-2 in the DFAL.
