Nov 30 – Girls Basketball

The Lady Dons went on the road Wednesday night to face off against power house Castro Valley Trojans.  Castro Valley is known to be a tough & physical team, having quick guards and high scoring shooters.  Going into the game was another challenge, as Coach Jim Lemmon is the former CYO Coach to the Lady Dons new Varsity Coach Ashley Valenzuela and Assistant Coach Christina Ozuna.

Our Lady Dons faced a close battle the entire way and ended halftime 25-23 in Trojans favor.  Walking away gassed from a fast-paced, hard pressing team, Coach Ashley rallied her players during half-time.  She quickly made some serious adjustments to her defense and the girls adjusted with ease.  The adjustments frazzled the Lady Trojans, but the Dons kept fighting and ended the 3rd quarter 35-35.

The Lady Dons continued to battle it out on the court and the Lady Trojans showed no mercy, doing everything they could to shut down Senior Point Guard, Brooke Panfili.  While Brooke remained heavily guarded, she continued to remain cool and calm, trusting in Coach Ashley to lead the way and make the needed play adjustments.  The team rallied together and thanks to the outstanding team defense and the efforts of Emma Godfrey, Veronica Marrone “Roni”, Olivia Sabbadini “Liv Sab”, Sabina Patel “Beanz”, Naomi House “Nai” and Sydney Louie “Syd” the girls took the lead in the 4th quarter bringing to 43-40.  From their the Lady Dons became unstoppable and pulled away, taking a victory and ending the game at 54-48.

While the Trojans held Brooke Panfili to 11 pts, Coach Ashley awarded her “Player of the Game” for staying calm and cool under the intense pressure.

Lady Dons hit the road once again heading to Middleton High School Friday night!
