May 29-30 – NCS Meet of Champions

This past weekend the track and field team competed in the North Coast Section Meet of Champions. Unlike team sports, track does not compete championships by divisions (there are five divisions in the state, all based on the size of the school.) In championship meets we must compete against larger schools and smaller schools. So in a meet like the Meet of Champions, those that qualify are the best 24 athletes in each event in the entire section. That is the best 24 athletes out of, by my count 168 schools. Just to make it to the meet is a very big accomplishment.

Trials, May 29th:
• Girls 4 x 100 finished 9th (.02 out of top eight and finals) Roni Morrone, Muppy Gragg, Imani Boggan, Julia Lyons
• Imani Boggan finished 9th in a 400 (this was the fastest group of 400 runners in MOC history. The top three from last year would not have been in the top four this year)
• Julia Lyons finished 9th in the 100
• Muppy Gragg finished 9th in the LJ with a 17’0 jump

Finals, May 30th:
• Julia Lyons finished 4th, in Long Jump, just missed qualifying for state by one place with a 17’11 1/2 (4th in the all time Acalanes’ list)
• 4 x 400 finished 6th with a season PR 3:57.30 (3rd on the all time list) Imani Boggan, Annie Klopstock, Maya Michon, and Muppy Gragg
• Cameron Gaskell 8th in the 3200 with 9:31.84

Performance of the meet was Julia Lyons in the LJ. Julia Jumped 10 inches beyond her previous best, but had four jumps at 17’10” or better.
