May 21 – Boys Lax: Heading to the NCS Division II Championship!

Wednesday night the Boy’s Varsity Lacrosse Team faced Piedmont High School in the NCS Semi-final game. Although Acalanes had the first possession of the game, Piedmont scored the first goal of the game. But Robbie Stern answered back with a goal of his own followed by Vinny Gladden with a spectacular steal and a run down the field for a terrific goal. The Dons then had a great streak with goals by Nathan Brickman, Jack Mariani, Robbie again, Sam deRoque, and Nathan again. The score at the end of the first quarter Dons 7 – Piedmont 2.

The 2nd quarter started with a bang with goals by Cole Tanner, Chris Lane, Robbie Stern, Tyler Henderson and Grant Jackson. Swiftly, Piedmont gained some momentum and scored 3 in a row at the end of the 2nd quarter. Score at halftime: Dons 12 – Piedmont 5

Dons were back on top after the half, possessing the ball for most of the time, making great passes, taking good shots (Piedmont’s goalie had some outstanding saves) and holding on to the ball. Adrian Jeffries (2), Robbie Stern, Jack Mariani and Sam deRoque each scored in the 2nd half with a final victory of Dons 17 – Piedmont 6.

Robbie Stern racked up 8 points for the Dons with a total of 4 goals and 4 assists! Tyler Henderson had several key offensive and defensive plays throughout the game, including a fantastic steal with a break-away run and a quick pass to Adrian Jeffries who fired it to Robbie Stern for a goal. Grant Jackson and Nathan Brickman were a winning combination with Grant feeding Nathan on the run passes, twice, both resulting in goals. Peter Mitchell and Sam Wood won the vast majority of face-offs for the Dons. Jack Thoren, Matt Reilly and Taylor Howell all had terrific plays in the 4th quarter.

Fantastic defense was played by the Dons with Jack Deveny, Vinny Gladden, Tommy Kresnak, Brian Maiken, Jackson May, and Marshall Morse pushing Piedmont out and not allowing many shots all while protecting their goalies and recovering ground balls. Cam Bosshart had 5 saves and a number of terrific “clears” while Danny Ennis had 1 save.

The NCS Division II Championship game will be at Acalanes vs. Marin Catholic on Friday night at 7pm. This is the 3rd year in a row that these 2 teams meet in the championship game. Come support the Dons as they attempt a REPEAT and conquer the #1 Title for the second year in a row.
