May 13 – Girls Lacrosse Falls in NCS Quarterfinals
In a highly anticipated NCS quarterfinal match up, the Acalanes girls lacrosse team faced Miramonte for the third time this season, hoping to grab a win and advance in the tournament. Both teams are evenly matched and traded goals the whole game, but the Dons went down by one with 1:30 left and couldn’t convert to send the game into overtime, losing to the Mats 8-7. Both teams put up strong defensive stands, with senior goalie Samantha Repstad racking up ten more saves including a couple of point-blank shots.
Marie Whitmore led the offensive attack scoring the first three goals for the Dons, and picking up another in the second half. Kelsey Wendt, Jenna Kisner and Anna DeRoque also each added a goal for the Dons. Julia Mueller and Marie Whitmore are credited with an assist each. DeRoque and Whitmore battled for possession and came up with seven ground ball controls between them for Acalanes and Sophie Ross fought hard in the circle to control the draw four times. Strong defense by the Dons was led by Kelcey Higgins, Marie Whitmore, Katrina Lee, Anna DeRoque and Jenna Kisner, controlling loose balls and causing turnovers. Additional loose balls on the other end of the field were picked up by Susie Bush, Kelsey Wendt, Katie Welch and Claire Gallagher. The Dons went out playing with intensity and heart. We all will miss our seniors and wish them the best and look forward to next year’s season.
