May 11 – Girls Lacrosse rolls over Cardinal Newman 18-8

Senior captains Sophie Ross and Samantha Repstad served notice, with lots of assistance from their Lady Dons teammates, that Acalanes is a force to be reckoned with in this year’s NCS playoffs.  Ross, with 6 goals, 3 assists, and 6 draw controls, and Repstad with 14 impressive saves, were ready to roll in Santa Rosa, where Cardinal Newman secured a home field advantage with a league championship despite a lower seed.

Scoring was well distributed across the team, with Susie Bush picking up four first half goals to set the early pace, and three of the Dons put up two each:  Julia Mueller, Kelsey Wendt, and Marie Whitmore.  Anna DeRoque and Claire Gallagher had the other points for the Dons.  Other assists came from Whitmore, Mueller, and Wendt.

After Ross’s dominating six draws, Whitmore had three, Wendt had two, and five other Dons contributed in the circle.  Wendt and Whitmore also had strong defensive games with ground ball controls, with additional help from Katrina Lee and Jenna Kisner.

The Dons return to quarterfinal playoff action on Friday night against league rival Miramonte at 7 p.m. in Orinda.
