May 1- Boy’s Varsity Lacrosse – Another Spectacular Win!
Thursday night was a special night for the Dons as they honored their Seniors and fought a hard battle against the Las Lomas Knights. Las Lomas was the only DFAL opponent the Dons had lost to this season and both teams came out fighting. The first half of the game appeared to be an even matched battle with the score at half-time: Dons 5 – Knights 4.
The half time pep talk in the locker room sure changed things around! The Dons returned to the field and showed Las Lomas what they are truly made of. Scoring goal after goal, the Dons managed to create a 4 point differential bringing the score to 9 to 5 as they entered the 4th quarter. Even though Las Lomas was able to score 2 more goals in the 4th quarter, the Dons answered back with 2 more of their own.
With the clock winding down and less than 4 minutes to play, Sam Wood won the faceoff which sealed the fate for Las Lomas. The offense managed to pass the ball around and around and around in what must have been a frustrating 3½ minutes for the Knights! Try as they might, the Knights were unable to get the ball back. To put icing on the cake, Adrian Jeffries shot with just a few seconds remaining in the game, bringing the final score to 12 to 7.
Robbie Stern was unstoppable scoring 6 goals of his own and handing out 2 assists! That’s 8 points on the board from the senior standout! Adrian Jeffries had 4 goals, Jack Mariani had 1 goal and 2 assists and Tyler Henderson had 1 goal.
As with every game this season, the defense fought hard and played extremely well. From Vinny Gladden’s numerous hits that resulted in turnovers to Brian Maiken’s outstanding coverage of Las Lomas’ D1 commit, not much was getting past the defense. Goalie Cam Bosshart had a number of remarkable saves.
We will be sad to say goodbye to our 12 outstanding seniors at the end of this season: Cam Bosshart, Jack DeVeny, Tommy Kresnak, John Fraser, Jackson May, Jack Mariani, Peter Mitchell, Marshall Morse, Sean Quinn, Matt Reilly, Robbie Stern and Sam Wood. But it’s not over yet… the boys still have to clinch the DFAL title and fight on in the NCS Playoffs! Go Dons!
