Mar 3 – Boy’s Lacrosse: NCS Championship Rematch

Tuesday night’s Varsity lacrosse game was a rematch of the 2014 (and 2013) NCS Division II Championship game(s): Acalanes vs. Marin Catholic. Although MC scored the first 2 goals of the game, the Dons were not rattled and answered back ending the 1st quarter with a score of 2 to 2. The Dons dominated the 2nd quarter scoring 5 goals and entered halftime with a 7 to 4 lead. With an even 3rd quarter at 2 goals each, the Dons began the 4th quarter with a lead of 9 to 6. But the 4th quarter proved to be challenging for the Dons as MC put up 2 unanswered goals. With just a few minutes left in the game, the Dons were fighting to hang on to a 9 to 8 lead. Thanks to a tough defense and an offense that was able to possess the ball, the Dons rode the clock to victory with a final score of 9 to 8.

Josh Baginski, Vinny Gladden, Joey Gladden and Brian Maiken forced a number of MC turnovers with their outstanding defense. Adrian Jeffries continues to dominate the offense with 5 goals and 1 assist, Sam deRoque had 2 goals & 1 assist, Colin Jeffries had 1 goal & 1 assist, Tyler Henderson had 1 goal. Nathan Brickman had 2 assists with Michael Bone and Chris Lane having 1 assist each. Face-offs were won by Leo Barakos and Sam deRoque at 2 each.

The Dons are fortunate to have 2 outstanding goalies this year with the return of Danny Ennis and Varsity newcomer Nate Welcomer. Each had 2 saves with a game changing steal in the 4th quarter by Nate Welcomer.

On Thursday the Boy’s lacrosse teams will travel to Monte Vista to face the Mustangs in what will surely be an exciting game.
