Mar 25 – No “Bones” about it – Dons Boys LAX win in overtime!
Friday night the Boys Lax team travelled to Walnut Creek to play Las Lomas in a league match up. It was an exciting game with the Dons appearing a bit sleepy from their ‘bye’ earlier in the week.
A terrific pass from Leo Barakos to Nathan Lee put the first goal up for the Dons which ended the 1st quarter tied at 1 to 1. The 2nd quarter was also tight with a goal by Fynn Chorak with a Brian Maiken assist and a goal by Nathan Brickman to end the 2nd quarter with a tie gme at 3 to 3. The 3rd quarter saw a goal from Fynn Chorak, but Las Lomas was able to sneak 2 in which brought the score going in to the 4th quarter at Acalanes 4 to Las Lomas 5. But, Michael Bone stole the show in the 4th quarter and scored 2 goals for the Dons with an assist to Jack Thoren for the 3rd goal of the quarter! Las Lomas also put up 2 goals in the 4th quarter which resulted in a tie game at 7 to 7 and the second sudden death overtime game in a row for the Dons.
It was certainly Michael Bone’s night and he didn’t disappoint! The Dons won the overtime faceoff on a Las Lomas penalty which allowed the Dons to set up a great play and a pass from Jack Thoren to Michael Bone for the game winning goal (and also a “hat trick” for Michael). Final score Acalanes 7 to Las Lomas 6.
Michael Bone with 3 goals and 1 assist, Fynn Chorak with 2 goals and 2 assists, Jack Thoren with 1 goal and 1 assist, Nathan Brickman with 1 goal, Nathan Lee with 1 goal and Leo Barakos and Brian Maiken with an assist each.
Goalie Nate Welcomer had 10 saves. Leo Barakos, Michael Bone, Nathan Brickman, Joey Gladden, Glenn Johnston, Brian Maiken, and Matty Mariani recovered the most ground balls. Beniam Huff and Matty Mariani won the majority of their faceoff takes.
Next game is Tuesday night at home against Dublin at 7pm.
