Mar 19 – Acalanes Girls LAX come from behind to win over Campo
The Acalanes girls brought their first league win home from Moraga on Friday night after a thriller in which the game tied and changed leads constantly in the second half, after a slower first half in which the Lady Dons went down 2 to 4.
Aggressive play in every aspect of the game, starting at the center circle with Sophie Ross dominating with 9 draw controls, helped seal the deal for Acalanes. Ross also controlled much of the offense with 5 goals, two off free position shots. Ross was joined by Susie Bush, Anna DeRoque, and Marie Whitmore on the scoreboard. Whitmore spent more time on the defensive side of the field and helped the cause in the backfield with 4 caused turnovers and 5 loose ball controls. Samantha Repstad continued her reliable performance in the goal with 10 saves, several of them one on one shots from close range. Repstad also picked up two ground balls in front of the goal at critical moments in the game. A new experience for many of the spectators was an “own goal” that rolled past the Campolindo goalie and was credited to the Dons.
The Dons look forward to continuing their season at California High School in San Ramon on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
