Oct 28 – JV Girls Tennis – Lady Dons 6 – Alhambra 0

The Lady Dons celebrated Maggie Curless’ birthday with a sweep at Alhambra. Playing at D-1, Allie Figueredo and Samantha Bell continued to play really well as a team and achieved an 8-4 win. Sam and Allie communicated effectively with each other and kept pressure on their opponents throughout the set. Claire Terentieff and Samantha Browne shut out their D-2 opponents 8-0. Controlling the net throughout the match permitted Claire and Sammie to coast to a win. Alexia Lucey and Lucy Nguyen played effectively at D-3 and brought home an 8-2 victory. Alexia’s serve kept the Alhambra team deep on the court and Lucy capitalized by putting away some fine volleys. Julia Lauer teamed with the birthday girl at D-5 and won handily 8-2. Maggie and Julia, playing together for the first time this season, were a truly effective team. Playing at D-6, Philippine Chauvet and Cameron Morton rounded out the Acalanes scoring with a fine 8-4 win. Cameron served really well and covered the backcourt, while Philippine scored consistently with backhand winners.

In our two exhibition matches, Lia Swan and Samantha Browne teamed at D-7 to defeat the D-1 team from Alhambra 8-1. Sammie was playing in her second set and she again took control of the net and put away a number of volleys, while Lia defended the mid court and back court areas with some terrific ground strokes and half volleys. Our D-8 team of Olivia Olson and Sally Tang played a fine match against the Alhambra D-2 duo. Although Alhambra won a competitive set 8-3, Sally served well and Olivia returned serve with a number of winners.

Once again, all of our lines competed well and demonstrated terrific sportsmanship during the entire match.
