Sep 3 – JV Lady Dons Tennis launches season 6-3 over the Wolfpack from San Ramon Valley

In a really well played match, comprised of 10 game pro sets, the Lady Dons were lead by Hannah Snyder and Mia Westphal playing at D-1. Mia and Hannah played physically and mentally tough to break serve at 9-10 and force a tiebreaker. They secured an 11-10 victory by winning the tiebreaker 7-2. Sam Sweeney and Maddie MacDonagh had a much easier time at D-3, but maintained great focus in winning 10-3. At D-6, Niki Palamountain and Skylar DeMartini were locked in a really competitive match 5-5 before pulling away to record a 10-6 win.

At 10-1, Claire Terentieff and Hayley Gotelli won the most lopsided of our lines at D-7. Like Maddie and Sam, Claire and Hayley did not let their opponents into the match by continuing to play aggressively at the net. At D-9, Jess Gerson and Olivia Towery also demonstrated terrific net play in a 10-3 victory. The final match of the day saw Doe Steinbrecher and Sammy Browne overcome a 6-9 deficit to prevail 11-9. Doe and Sammy got off to a rocky start, but picked up their games by eliminating unforced errors and showing great mental toughness throughout the match.

Overall, all of our lines competed effectively against a fine team from San Ramon Valley. It was also great to see a number of Lady Dons, who were not slated to play, at the courts to support their teammates.
