Oct 14 – JV Girls Tennis: Northgate 4 – Acalanes 1

The Lady Dons dropped a well-contested road match to a fine Northgate squad 4 – 1. Playing the varsity three-set format for the first time this season, the Acalanes pairs played hard in a losing cause.

At D-1, acting captains Skyler DeMartini and Maggie Curless played a terrific match that went to a tie-breaker in the second set. In a seven-point tiebreaker, Maggie and Skyler forced their opponents to go to 12-10 before earning the win, 6-4, 7-6.

At D-2, Sophia Scipi and Molly Cronk played a fine two set match with a number of the games going to deuce before Northgate pulled it out at 6-3, 6-3. Our D-3 duo of Emily Klein and Sophia Lindgren ran into a Northgate team that could have been seeded at D-1. Sophia and Emily played a number of fine points during their match. Shannon McVay and Lauren Craig played well in a 4-6, 3-6 loss, with Lauren winning points with her volley at the net while Shannon delivered a number of backcourt winners off her groundstrokes.

Allowing Acalanes to avoid the bagel, acting captain Olivia Olson, looking very stylish in Converse low cuts and Milena “I Love Tiebreakers” Lucey teamed to pull out a three-set victory, The match at D-5 saw the Acalanes tandem prevail in TWO tiebreakers. Playing a seven-point tiebreaker for the first set, Milena and Liv started strong and ran off a 7-4 win. After dropping the second set 1-6, Olivia and Milena re-grouped and played a wonderful ten-point tiebreaker to secure the third set and a well-deserved win, 7-6, 1-6, 10-5. In their last two matches Milena and Olivia have won three tiebreakers, playing really fine tennis under pressure.
