Oct 23 – JV Girls Tennis: Miramonte 8 – Acalanes 4

This afternoon we played an excellent match against a tough Lady Mats squad. Although Miramonte won the match 8-4, all of our lines competed effectively and the Lady Dons continue to improve. Our result today is an improvement over our first match loss at 10-3.

Kelianne Witt and Maddie Guzaitis continued to play winning tennis at D-2 downing a tough combo from Miramonte 8-4. Maddie and Keli returned to the form they showed at Las Lomas and Dougherty Valley in controlling the set against a fine Miramonte doubles team.

Following up on their winning performance at Dublin, our second victory of the day was an 8-4 win by the combo of Melanie Tymm and Alexia Lucey, playing at D-9. Alexia continued to serve consistently and cover the backcourt effectively while Melanie handled a number of tough volleys at net.

A new Lady Dons’ team of Cameron Morton and Kelly Min accounted for an Acalanes point with an 8-5 win at D-11. Kelly kept the Miramonte duo pinned deep with some great topspin groundstrokes and Cameron, playing in her second set of the day, controlled the net in a really hard fought set.

Our final win was recorded by Samantha Bell and Allie Figueredo, who doubled back to play a second set at D-12. Communicating effectively with each other Sam and Allie played a number of hotly contested points in an 8-4 victory.

It should also be noted that recently licensed California driver, Julia Lauer teamed with Olivia Olson and took their Miramonte opponents to a tie breaker in a fine come back effort. Although Miramonte won the tiebreaker, Julia scored 100% on her driver’s test.

A really good effort by all of the Lady Dons players on and off the court.
