Oct 6 – JV Girls Tennis: Acalanes 8 – Miramonte 4

The Lady Dons JVs finished the first half of the DFAL tennis season with a resounding 8-4 win over Miramonte. We stomped the Mats!

Sammy Browne and Meena Neelakadan started the Acalanes scoring with a convincing 8-1 win at D-6. Captains Claire Terentieff and Hayley Gotelli overcame their concern for Hayley’s lost phone and recorded an 8-4 victory atD-3.

Despite being badly mis-coached (I thought they were down 3-7, when in fact they were UP 7-3) Maddie McDonagh and Maggie Curless played a terrific match at D-1. After I gave them my best “better luck next time” pep talk when they came off the court, they finally informed me that Acalanes had won 8-5.

Sophomores Jess Gerson and Olivia Towery teamed effectively at D-7 to record an 8-4 win. While Olivia ran a number of balls down in the back court, Jess covered the net throughout the match and volleyed away a winner at match point. Sally Tang and Lia Swan played a close tactical match at D-9, showing great focus to rack up a 9-7 victory. Sally’s serve was smoking and Lia’s ground strokes controlled the back court.

Our frosh duos recorded a pair of Acalanes wins at D-10 and 11. Emily Klein and Sophia Lindgren took and early lead and did not let up on their way to an 8-4 win. Playing against a surprisingly unfocused team from Miramonte, Shannon McVay and Lauren Craig kept their composure and were not distracted while securing an 8-4 win for the Lady Dons.

The final match of the day saw Liv Olson and Milena Lucey record an 8-7 win in a match shortened due to time constraints. At 7-7, we agreed to play a seven-point tie breaker. Olivia and Milena really dug in and dominated the tie-breaker 7-2.

The JV Lady Dons are 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the DFAL.
