Oct 27 – JV Girls Tennis: Acalanes 6 – Alhambra 4

Playing under the lights for the first time this season, the Lady Dons defeated the Bulldogs of Alhambra High 6-4. With this win we improve to 10-4 overall and 6-3 in league matches. This was one of the best-attended matches of the season and the parental and grandparental support is appreciated.

Maggie Curless and Maddie McDonagh playing at D-1 got us off to a strong start by recording a convincing 8-1 win. Maggie and the Maddie took control of the match early and did not look back. Skyler DeMartini and Niki Palamountain got off to a slower start at D-2 but gathered themselves to move on to an 8-3 victory.

Molly Cronk and Sophia Scipi playing at D-3 also took control of their set early and did not let their opponents into the match on their way to an 8-1 win. At D-4, Jess Gerson and Olivia Towery continued to play steady tennis both at the net and in the backcourt as they bested their Bulldog opponents 8-3.

At D-7, the Lucey Sisters, Alexia and Milena, did their best Williams’ sisters impersonation as they rallied from as slow start to come home winners at 8-2. Milena and Alexia communicated effectively (amazing for siblings) and covered the court well chasing down a number balls that looked to be Alhambra winners before they turned into Acalanes points.

Sally Tang and Olivia Olson handed the Alhambra D-8 team a bagel. Serving and volleying well, Olivia and Sally romped to an 8-0 victory. Because we had to change our order of play to accommodate some time concerns, Emily Klein and Sophia Lindgren were on the court until 7:00 p.m. Despite the late start for the D-6 line and scrappy Bulldog opponents, Emily and Sophia communicated effectively and covered the court well as they put us over the top with an 8-5 victory.

All of our lines competed well with a number of our losing sets going to deuce games that were marked by long rallies and really fine shot making.
