Jun 27 – Acalanes Grad Swims in Olympic Qualifier
Katie Lynn Records, a 2011 graduate of Acalanes High School and 2016 graduate of UC Santa Barbara, is headed to Olympic Trials in Omaha NB for the second time.
Katie will compete Monday in the 100 breast stroke. In 2012, she competed in the 200 breast stroke.
USA Swimming executive director Chuck Wielgus calls Olympic Trials “…our Super Bowl week”.
The UCSB Student Spotlight wrote in January “The 2015 UCSB Female Athlete of the Year, three-time MPSF champion, and 2012 League Freshman of the Year is having another exemplary season in the pool…”
Legendary head coach for 40 years at UCSB women’s and men’s swimming programs, Gregg Wilson took a chance on Katie, welcoming her to the Gauchos team in her freshman year. Katie had only just begun training year round (joining the Terrapins) in her senior year of high school after splitting her time between Irish dancing and swimming. By then she was already a two time Irish Dance World Qualifier. Trading in her dancing shoes for goggles and a racing suit, Katie went on to win MPSF Freshman of the Year. She has shone in the pool ever since.
Katie’s UCSB biography, accomplishments and news articles can be found here on the UCSB Gaucho website:
