Jan 25 – Acalanes Boys Soccer Dons tie Miramonte
The Acalanes boys soccer team tied Miramonte 0-0 on Friday night in a tense affair. The Dons started slowly, which gave Miramonte added confidence. The majority of the first half was played in the middle third of the field, with neither team able to sustain an attack. Miramonte did pose a counterattacking threat though, and on two occasions goalkeeper Eric Rogstad was required to make spectacular saves to keep Miramonte at bay.
The Acalanes boys came out in the second half with renewed energy and determination. Acalanes’ direct attacking style started to pay off as Acalanes was able to put the Miramonte defense under constant pressure. The midfield of Dan Glascock, Max Mirner and Mark Helfrich was industrious and helped Acalanes maintain possession throughout the half. Ben Croze repeatedly tested the Miramonte keeper with a variety of shots. Dan Glascock, Luke Van Oss, Graham Lindgren and Stuart Lee all went close as well. Unfortunately, none of these shots found the back of the net. On the defensive end, Acalanes’ back four neutralized the Miramonte attack such that Miramonte did not register a single shot on goal in the second half.
The final minutes of the game were nervy as Acalanes repeatedly pressed for a goal, but it was not to be. While the Dons maintained their undefeated season record, there were clearly disappointed that they did not convert any of their many chances. Acalanes next faces a tough Northgate side on Monday, January 28 at 6:00 p.m.
