Jan 21 – King of the Mat Wrestling Results

On Saturday January 22 the Acalanes Wrestling Team competed at the King of the Mat Tournament at Windsor High School. This is a very important tournament featuring teams from California and Nevada.  Acalanes had It’s best showing ever with three medalists. Axel Jurgens placed 8th at 162, Tai White placed 7th at 128 and Jeremy Ridge was the Champion at 147. Acalanes has had medalists at every tournament it has attended this season, has NCS and State ranked wrestlers and is undefeated in dual meets.

This has been an exciting month for the Acalanes Wrestling program. Early in January the Team hosted the Junior National Freestyle Team of Japan. The two teams practiced together and Acalanes hosted a dual meet between USA and Japan. Several Acalanes wrestlers competed in the meet. The Japanese wrestlers stayed with our Acalanes families and we had a big celebratory dinner together.

Last weekend the program held its youth fundraising tournament, the East Bay Challenge. 150 youth wrestlers from Pee Wee to Schoolboy from around the bay area competed. The Acalanes Team ran the scoring tables and refereed and the team parents ran concessions and the door. It was a valuable experience for all involved.
