On Wednesday, the Dons defeated Dublin on their own field in convincing fashion, scoring three times, with junior Dan Glascock (1) and senior Austin DeBack at the receiving end of senior Aidan Maguire assists (3). Dublin was able to find the net once on a penalty kick for a final score of 3-1 in favor of Acalanes.
Two days later, the Dons were traveling to Las Lomas and were held 0-1 for almost an hour until junior Graham Lindgren used one of his “magical” long throw-in to find fellow junior Nick Warren in the box who tied the game at 1-1. A few minutes later, senior captain Jacob Carroll converted a penalty kick for a 2-1 lead. The momentum had switched and Acalanes would score two more goals by senior Austen Grassini (assist: Warren) and Glascock (assist: senior David Dadiomov) to win by a comfortable margin (4-1).
Finally on Saturday, the Dons were at Clayton Valley to play a non-league game against one of the top Division 1 teams this year. Under a lot of pressure and dominated for most of the game, the Acalanes players fought with their heart and succeeded in keeping the advantage they had taken early in the game with Glascock at the reception of a throw-in by Lindgren (seems familiar?). Junior Goal Keeper Eric Rogstad played a big role in this 1-0 win by stopping a penalty kick at the end of the game (something he did the night before as well!).
With an overall record of 10-1-3 (6-0-1 in DFAL), the Dons can feel proud of the work accomplished and take a well-deserved “small” break to focus on academics with a week of finals. Next game on Saturday, January 21st @ Pinole Valley (Noon). See you there… Go Dons!
